Moon Deity
The Incas were incredibly afraid of lunar eclipses, fearing that it was a fight between the beautiful, female moon goddess and a growling mountain lion or sly serpent. They viewed these creatures attacking the moon; therefore, whenever a lunar eclipse took place, Incas would yell at the top of their lungs, hurl weapons toward the sky, and make numerous attacking gestures. The Incas feared that the world would be left in total darkness if they did not protect the moon goddess and keep her safe from the vicious animals.
